HISTORY

The pipe band originated as the Clan Na Lochanna Pipe Band in the mid1960s under Pipe Major George Crawford. They faced difficult times due to lack of membership and funding, resulting in a published request in 2005 for "new blood" and new leadership. As a result, the Peachland Pipe Band was formed under the direction of Pipe Major David Cain.

After nearly five years serving Peachland, the members voted to move on to Summerland where a better venue was offered, with the prospects of further members joining the band.

In 2009 the band moved to Summerland Branch 22 of the Royal Canadian Legion. The overwhelming welcome to the District and outstanding financial assistance afforded
by Mayor Perrino and Council allowed the band to replace and re-identify the uniforms and instruments.

On July 12th, 2010 Summerland Council unanimously voted their support, and the band officially became The Summerland Pipes and Drums. In keeping with Council's request, we adopted the town colour of Green for our pipe bags and miscellaneous uniform accoutrements,  We also commissioned a new logo highlighting the Giant's Head and Lake Okanagan. We proudly continue to wear the RCMP tartan.

Since then the band has made great progress musically and our membership has started to grow as anticipated. The Summerland Pipes and Drums is presently under the direction of Pipe Major Graham Burley
